11 beneficios del mindfulness

persona meditandoEl mindfulness está de moda. Lo sé. Hace unos diez años entré en contacto con la meditación vipassana, en ese entonces, encontrar libros vinculados con el tema no era cuestión sencilla. En cambio, hoy por hoy, las librerías tienen un sector exclusivo dedicado al tema, los libros y las publicaciones se multiplican día a día. Es un boom, no sólo en la sociedad sino en los centros científicos y especializados. Una práctica que en oriente lleva cinco mil años, que gurúes y santos han promovido desde el inicio de los tiempos, hoy tiene su revancha en occidente de la mano de la ciencia médica y psicológica.
Hoy quiero contarte cuáles son los principales beneficios de la práctica del Mindfulness. Los cambios se ven a nivel físico, emocional y cognitivo.

  • Reducción del cortisol. Lo que disminuye el estrés y por lo tanto es una excelente herramienta de prevención para cualquier tipo de enfermedad física y mental.
  • Cambios cerebrales vinculados con un aumento de materia gris en ciertas zonas del cerebro y una reducción neuronal en zonas como la amígdala, que llevan a una menor reactividad emocional, menos rumiación y una notable mejora en síntomas vinculados con los trastornos de ansiedad.
  • Reducción en los síntomas depresivos.
  • Puede llegar a terminar con problemas de insomnio.
  • Mejoría en tratamientos vinculados con trastornos alimenticios y adicciones.
  • Cambios vinculados con la percepción del dolor, lo que trae mejorías en pacientes con dolores crónicos.
  • Mejoras vinculadas con aspectos cognitivos, como la atención, la percepción y la memoria.
  • Cambios en el precúneo que podrían estar relacionados con una percepción de mayor felicidad y una notable mejoría en las relaciones sociales.
  • Cambios vinculados con la percepción y el tránsito de las propias emociones. Una mejora en nuestra inteligencia emocional, evitando la represión y disminuyendo la reactividad.
  • Mayor resiliencia. La capacidad de sobreponerse a sucesos negativos.
  • Mayor empatía y compasión.

La meditación mindfulness tiene más de cuarenta años de estudios y análisis. Las nuevas tecnologías han sido de vital importancia para poder ir viendo los cambios cerebrales y las repercusiones reales de la práctica.
Si bien es una moda, puede ser llevada a buen puerto. Claro que siempre hay que evitar las malas prácticas. Las que llevan a una banalización de la práctica, a una utilización de la práctica para el incremento del consumo y de un hacer sin sentido, y las que no entienden que además de una técnica es una manera de observar y de vivir.
